![]() ![]() Implying that he NEEDS a tune to prevent ZOMG ENGINE DAMAGE is disingenuous and downright wrong. He didn't install different camshafts, he didn't put a different air intake on it, he didn't swap injectors, he didn't do anything except remove a small piece of emissions hardware, probably just for better sound. All he did was remove a piece of emissions equipment. If you'd read my initial comment a little more carefully, I never suggested that an ecu flash after removing a cat is a bad idea, just that it's not strictly necessary. Not a single one of the vehicles I've built and tuned has benefited from a catalytic converter. I've done everything from 400hp 4-banger Volvos and DIY EFI systems to carbed rotary motorcycles, to boosted LS swaps in Fox chassis. I have lost count of how many cars and bikes I've built over the years. If I have my choice between listening to just about every tuning shop known to man suggesting some sort of ECU tuning if you replace the cat/exhaust and listening to a random guy tell me it's fine on Reddit, I'm going to go with the folks that actually seem to know something about what they're talking about. In this specific situation, we also don't know if there's a stock exhaust behind the cat, or whether that's been replaced too. Without knowing how much the cat restricts the airflow, you have no way of knowing how much it's changing when it's replaced with a non-restrictive part, and subsequently you can't know what the impact would be on the A/F ratio. If you move that volume of air significantly enough, it can mess with your air/fuel ratios, and create lean/rich situations. You're ignoring the fact that when you start to make changes to an exhaust or intake system on an internal combustion engine, you're potentially making changes to the volume of air that moves through the system. The Cat is a piece of emissions equipment, so you got that part right. Join us on Discord! Showing off Bikes or Gear? Click Here Looking for purchase advice?
